Drone 3D model: a model to show, not to settle accounts with.

One sentence will save you disappointment at the end of the project: our 3D model is a visual product. It shows the building, the mass of a development and change over time very well. It is not, however, a basis for measurement, handover or settling with a contractor.

This is not a cautious disclaimer in small print, but a real limit of the equipment and of licences. Below we describe it plainly, so that you can judge straight away whether this is the right service.

Applications

What the model is really useful for.

Z·01

Presenting a development

The mass of the building in the context of its surroundings, for material for the investor, the supervisory board or end clients. One model replaces a dozen photographs.

Z·02

Decisions and meetings

A shared point of reference in a meeting: everyone looks at the same building instead of describing it in words and sketching it on a napkin.

Z·03

Documenting the state

A record of the state of a building on a specific day. Comparison with the next model shows what has changed - useful for refurbishments and for heritage buildings.

Z·04

Planning the works

Assessing access, equipment positioning and the order of works on a building that cannot be walked around or must not be entered.

Z·05

Hard-to-reach elements

Multi-pitched roofs, towers, chimneys, façades with detail. The model lets you look at them from every side without a lift and without going up at height.

Z·06

Material for the designer

Spatial context for an architect or a designer as a starting point, supplemented with a proper survey wherever the numbers have to be binding.

The boundary

Looking: yes. Measuring: with a land surveyor.

A visual model, that is ours

  • appearance, mass, the context of the surroundings, detail visible from the air
  • comparison of the state between dates
  • a flight record with the conditions of capture and an explicit absence of any accuracy claim
  • a format for viewing and presentation, agreed before delivery

A metric model, that is not ours

  • dimensions binding for a design and for handover
  • volumes of earthworks for settling with a contractor
  • as-built inventories and documentation for official submission
  • any result meant to settle a dispute or go to court

The reason is the same as with the orthophotomap: the manufacturer of our equipment does not guarantee the accuracy of the map product, and a binding result requires control points and the signature of a licensed person. We set that out in detail on the orthophotomap page.

Questions

Four questions that come up first.

Can I take measurements on this model?

You can measure and the model will give you a number - the problem is that nobody is responsible for its correctness. For your own orientation that is sometimes enough. For handover, settling with a contractor or a dispute you need a product signed by a land surveyor, because there what counts is not the number itself but the documented uncertainty and professional liability.

How does this differ from a model from an as-built inventory?

An as-built inventory is a survey product: it has a control network, control points, an error report and the signature of a licensed person. Our model is built from photographs and serves to show what the building looks like and how it changes. Those are two different products that happen to look similar on screen.

How long does it take to prepare the model?

The flight itself is usually a few hours in the field, depending on the size of the building and the flight zones. Processing takes from half a day to two business days. The flight date is always conditional on the weather, so we plan the schedule with slack rather than to the minute.

Will you model the interior of a building?

No. We work from the air and outdoors. Interiors, enclosed spaces and buildings that require flying in tight conditions call for a different platform and a different procedure.

The starting point for a standalone assignment: from 2,200 PLN net (working floor), quoted by scope. The size of the building, the level of detail required and the flight zones affect the time in the field and in processing, so the price is set after the particular building has been assessed.

Check Feasibility

Describe the building - we will tell you whether a visual model is enough.

A reply within 1 business day. If your goal requires binding dimensions, we will say so straight away and point you to the right path.
